Ofcom Media Literacies Toolkit

Ofcom has produced an evaluation toolkit for media literacies.

Has anyone been involved with the Ofcom Media Literacies project, or given advice to the network that hosts Ofcom’s work in this area?

Does independent, DIY, alternative or community media get a mention in these models?

It would be good to look at this and discuss how relevant it is to our work and media democracy more generally.

My initial impression is that this approach is rather technocratic, and doesn’t relate to practical experience. It also lacks any sense of how differential expectations might be incorporated based on principles of equality, access and diversity. It could be useful to use this model, however, as it might be recognised by partners and stakeholder organisations who want to benchmark the work of independent and community-led media projects.
